The Indian shooters were always expected to perform well at the Commonwealth Games and they have not disappointed the fans. After a great performance by Heena Sidhu and Manu Bhaker on Sunday, star shooter Jitu Rai bagged the gold medal in the 10 metre air pistol event on Monday. Jitu created a new CWG record of 235.1 in the final.

Kerry Bell of Australia took silver with 233.5, while Om Mitharwal bagged the bronze for India with 214.3.

Earlier in the day, Om Mitharval equalled the Commonwealth Games (CWG) record on his way to qualifying for the final of the 10 metre air pistol event.

Om shot 584 in the qualifying round to equal the meet record set by fellow Indian Samaresh Jung at the 2006 CWG in Melbourne. Jitu finished fourth in the qualification round with a score of 570.

Manu Bhaker and Heena Sidhu won the gold and silver medals in the women's 10 metre air pistol event on Sunday.

Haryana's 16-year-old Bhaker produced a spectacular performance, setting a new CWG record with a total of 240.9 points in the final round.

Bhaker was in fine form coming into her maiden CWG appearance, having won 10 m air pistol and 10 m air pistol mixed event gold medals at the ISSF World Cup earlier this year in Mexico.

The Experienced Sidhu registered 234 points to make it 1-2 for India at the top of the podium. It was her first medal at the CWG. She made her CWG debut in 2010 New Delhi edition.
