But...?: While the institute had indeed issued this circular back in April 2019, its management withdrew it a day after it was issued.

How do we know?: We noticed that the date stamp at the top of the circular read '18.04.2019', indicating that it was six years old.

  • We then conducted a keyword search using the institute's name and adding 'Quran' to it, which led us to news reports about the circular from 2019.

  • One such report by The Times of India, dated 1 May 2019, said that the college had withdrawn the "controversial circular" a day after it was issued.

The report said that the circular was withdrawn.

  • It said as per the the Dr Hashim Azeez, director of the Azeezia Group of Medical Institutions, the circular was withdrawn on 19 April as the decision to issue it came "without the approval of the chairman" and "without the concurrence of the management."

  • Azeez told TOI that the medical superintendent who issued the note was "removed" from his post, calling the circular "unfortunate."

  • More reports about this incident from 2019 can be seen here and here.

Conclusion: An old, withdrawn circular calling for the recitation of the Quran at the Azeezia Medical College Hospital in Kerala has gone viral on social media.
