A link to an article is doing the rounds on social media platforms with a claim that Friday, 6 June, has been recently declared as national public holiday.

What else did the claim say?: The article further said that all schools, banks, and government offices across the country will remain closed on 6 June.

What are the facts?: As of when this report was being written, there is no available evidence to support the claim that the government has declared 6 June as a public holiday.

  • As per the official website of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all banks will remain open across the country except Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on the aforementioned day.

What led us to the truth?: We conducted a keyword search on Google and found a news report published by Business Standard that talked about banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram being closed on the occasion of Bakrid.

  • There are no available reports or information available in the public domain that supported the claim of 6 June being a national holiday.

Is 6 June a bank holiday?: On going through the official website of the RBI, we found that banks in only two cities namely — Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram had a holiday on the occasion of Bakrid.

  • Additionally, banks across the country except Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on 7 June to mark the occasion of Id-Uz-Zuha.

Banks in only two cities to remain closed on 6 June.
