"Continuing with spirit of Navratri, let us work towards furthering empowerment and dignity of women," said Prime Minister Modi at Dussehra celebrations in Delhi's Dwarka on Tuesday, 8 October.

Addressing the nation, he added, “Ours is the land where 'Maa' is worshipped. It's our responsibility to respect every daughter in India. During Mann Ki Baat also, I mentioned that our daughters are 'Laxmi' for us. This coming Diwali let us celebrate their accomplishments.”

Talking about the country’s multiculturalism, he said, “India is a land of festivals. Every festival brings our society together.”

“On this Vijaya Dashami, at a time when we mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, I have a request for my fellow citizens. Let us take up a mission this year and work to achieve it. This mission can be, not wasting food, conserving energy, saving water,” said PM Modi.

He said that it is through India’s festivals that we celebrate the salient aspects of Indian culture and get to know the different types of art, music, songs and dance.

The event has been organised by the Dwarka Shri Ram Leela Society at the DDA Ground in Dwarka Sector 10.

Usually, high dignitaries join the Dussehra celebrations at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
