Wrestler Held For Alleged Rape of National-level Kabaddi Player

The accused allegedly lured the victim to his car, pretending to be a coach.

A wrestler has been arrested in west Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area for allegedly sexually assaulting a junior national-level kabaddi player, police said on Wednesday. The 40-year-old accused, identified as Naresh Dahiya, is a resident of Jain Extension in Shahbad Dairy area in north Delhi.

Dahiya, who runs a local wrestling centre in his village, was arrested on Tuesday night from his residence.

A senior police officer said:

The incident occurred on 9 July when the victim, who went for training in Chhatrasal Stadium in north Delhi, was accosted by Dahiya. Posing as a coach, he lured the victim to his car on the pretense of giving her diet tips. 

The officer added:

After having covered some distance, he struck her behind her shoulder following which she lost consciousness. When she regained her senses, she found herself in a flat. The accused then sexually assaulted her.

Dahiya left the rape survivor near the stadium the next day and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed his crime to anyone, said the officer. The survivor later approached the police and filed a complaint against Dahiya at the Model Town police station in north Delhi.

Dahiya has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376 of the IPC.

The medical test of the survivor, who is presently undergoing treatment, confirmed rape, the officer added.
