In a series of distresses for cab conglomerate Uber, the company may now face a lawsuit for obtaining the medical records of a rape survivor and circulating them internally.

Uber had recently fired a top executive after word got out that he had obtained the records of a woman who had been raped by her Uber driver in India, in 2014.

According to an explosive report in Recode, the executive in question, Eric Alexander, had sent the records to Uber CEO Travis Kalanick as Uber was investigating the accounts of the survivor.

Uber alleged her account was an attempt at sabotage by Ola, their rival in India.

We are investigating and researching all potential avenues to address this situation and expect to have more information next week.
Douglas Wigdor, the woman’s representative in a US district court told Buzzfeed

According to the Indian Penal Code, anyone who “prints or publishes the name or any matter which may make known the identity” of a victim of rape, can be fined or imprisoned.

Alexander was fired right after Uber fired 20 of its employees over sexual harassment in the work sphere. The cab hailing app company also hired an Apple marketing executive Bozoma Saint John as Chief Brand Officer to rescue its tainted brand.
