Former TDP MP and founder of Gitam University M V V S Murthy was killed in road accident in Alaska, USA.

According to Telugu reports, the accident took place while Murthy was travelling from California in a Dodge Van to visit a wild life safari at Anchorage in Alaska.

Indian National Faces Jail, Canning for Extortion in Singapore

A 35-year-old Indian national, who tried to extort half-a-million Singapore dollars from Standard Chartered Bank here, was charged in a Singapore court.

Nagarajan Balajee faces a jail term of between two and five years and caning under a charge of "attempting to commit extortion," The Straits Times reported on Wednesday, 3 October.

Protesting Farmers End March in Delhi

Protesting farmers who had marched from Haridwar to Delhi, as part of the Kisan Kranti Padyatra, ended their march at the Kisan Ghat in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 October, police said.

The farmers had marched towards Delhi on Tuesday, 2 October, over demands ranging from farm loan waiver to cut in fuel prices, blocking traffic movement on arterial roads leading to the national capital.

The New York State Tax Department has confirmed it is investigating claims by the New York Times that US President Donald Trump helped his parents dodge millions of dollars in taxes.

The newspaper has alleged that Trump was involved in "dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud", the BBC reported on Wednesday, 3 October.

The Editors Guild of India on Wednesday condemned the cancellation of the registration of CPI(M)'s mouthpiece 'Daily Desher Katha' in Tripura by the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI).

Demanding the "immediate revocation" of the order, the Guild said that it is "of the view that cancellation of the registration of a publication on the mere finding that there was a mismatch between the information of the editor, printer and publisher is not only a gross overreaction but also a draconian step that throttles freedom of the media."

India to Deport 7 Rohingyas to Myanmar on Thursday

Seven Rohingya immigrants, who have been staying in Assam illegally, will be deported to their home country Myanmar Thursday, officials said in New Delhi.

This is for the first time Rohingya immigrants would be sent back to Myanmar from India.

A UN human rights expert has also expressed alarm at the issue, saying their forcible return could constitute refoulement which violates international law, according to the United Nations Human Rights Special Procedures.

The Indian Govt has an obligation to refer Rohingyas under their custody to the UN refugee agency so their protection needs can be assessed and proper information provided to them about their rights, the expert added.(PTI)

Ravi Shankar Prasad Announces New Schemes for MP, Farmers and Railways

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, along with Ram Mohan Singh, announced a slew of schemes ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections, apart from increasing the MSP for Rabi crops.

Prasad announced the government’s plans for Metro in the state of MP, cost for which, will be shared by both the state and the central government. He announced a metro line for Bhopal (27.8 km connectivity) and Indore (41.55 km connectivity).
