Stalin Set to Become DMK President Unopposed
DMK Working President MK Stalin is set to be elected as the party president, unopposed as he is the only person who has filed the nomination for that post on Sunday, 26 August, the last day for filing of nominations.
Similarly senior leader Duraimurugan is also set to become the party Treasurer unopposed.

Reuters Journalists Face Verdict in Landmark Case
Two Reuters journalists in Myanmar face a ruling on Monday, 27 August, that could see them each jailed for up to 14 years, a landmark case that ignited global outcry after they were arrested while investigating a Rohingya massacre.
Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, have been in Myanmar's Insein prison since December, 2017, after they were invited to a dinner with police in Yangon and pounced on as they left the restaurant.

SC to Hear Petition Seeking Scrapping of Article 35 A in J&K
The Supreme Court is expected to hear a petition seeking the scrapping of Article 35 A, which disallows people from residing in the state, buying or owning immovable property in the state, settle permanently in the state, or get state government jobs, on Monday, 27 August.
We the Citizens, an NGO, had filed the petition in the Court back in 2014, on the grounds that it was "unconstitutional”, reported ANI.
FIR Registered Against Congress MLA After He Hit BJP worker
An FIR was filed against Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Umang Singhar and others for allegedly hitting and threatening, Pradeep Gadiya, a BJP worker in Dhar district, 250 km south east of Bhopal.
The FIR was filed by the police, following a complaint by Gadiya.
One Dead, One Injured After Being Hit by Tanker
In a classic hit and run case, one girl was killed and one injured, after they were hit by a tanker near Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Janakpuri, Delhi. The driver reportedly fled from the spot, ANI reported.
Hyd Twin Blasts Case: NIA Court Postpones Judgement to 4 Sep
The verdict in the 2007 Hyderabad twin-bomb blast case was expected to be delivered on Monday, 27 August, eleven years after the bombs defused in the Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park in the city, killing 42 people and leaving over 50 injured.
National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court, however, postponed its judgement to 4 September.
Family members and relatives of the victims observed the 11th anniversary of the blasts that took place on 25 August, 2007, PTI reported.

Meghalaya Bypolls: Sangma Wins South Tura by 8,400 Votes
Meghalaya Chief Minister and National Peoples Party (NPP) candidate Conrad Sangma on Monday, 27 August, won the by-election from the South Tura Assembly constituency by a huge margin.
Conrad, the youngest son of the late Purno A Sangma, defeated Charlotte W Momin of the Congress by 8,421 votes in a four-cornered contest, IANS reported.
Meanwhile, United Democratic Party candidate Pius Marwein won the Ranikor seat in the Meghalaya bypolls.
Court of Inquiry Initiates Disciplinary Action Against Gogoi
A Court of Inquiry held Major Leetul Gogoi accountable for fraternising with a local in spite of instructions to the contrary and for being away from the place of duty while in an operational area, ANI reported.
Gogoi was detained by the Jammu and Kashmir Police from a hotel with a woman on 23 May. He was allegedly involved in a brawl with the woman at the hotel.
Two Indian Military Choppers Gifted to Maldives to Stay Back

SpiceJet operated India's first test flight powered by biojet fuel on Monday, 27 August according to the airline. A Bombardier Q400 aircraft, partially using biojet fuel, took off from Dehradun and landed at the airport in the national capital. The airline said it successfully operated "India's first ever biojet fuel flight", PTI reported.

CBI Sends Letter to Anituga Govt Through MEA For Choksi Arrest
The CBI, on Monday, 27 August, sent a letter to the Antigua government through the Ministry of External Affairs after the former raised questions regarding the no Red Corner Notice issued against Mehul Choksi.
In the letter, the CBI said that since the location and nationality of Mehul Choksi is already known, he should be arrested and the Antigua government should start with his extradition process, ANI reported.

Sensex, Nifty Clock Best Single Day Gains In Over Two Months
Indian equity benchmarks clocked their best single-day gains in over two months to resume the record-breaking run. The S&P BSE Sensex rose 1.16 percent or 442 points to 38,694 and the NSE Nifty 50 index climbed 1.17 percent or 135 points to 11,692.

PM Jan Arogya Yojana to Cover Rs.5 Lakh per Family: JP Nadda
A press conference on Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was held by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda in National Media Centre, Delhi.
Speaking to the media, Nadda said, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will cover Rs 5 lakh per family per year. Approximately, 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families are are entitled under Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) data.”
“States given flexibility to decide on mode of implementation,if they want to go for insurance model or trust model or mixed model. Benefits will be portable across the country and payments will be done cashless and paperless to panel hospitals,” he added.
All Party Meet with Chief Election Commissioner Concludes
All party meeting with Chief Election Commissioner, OP Rawat, concluded with ‘positive’ and ‘constructive’ feedback, officials said.
Speaking to ANI, Rawat said, “the Commission will take all the suggestions, examine and whatever needs to be done to improve the delivery of elections will be done. Some political parties have said that there are problems with EVMs and VVPATs.”
“Some of the parties said going back to ballot is bad as it would bring back booth capturing ,” added Rawat.

BCCI Elections Will Be Conducted by End of November
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai said that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections will be held in next 90 days now that the Constitution has been adopted.
''BCCI elections will happen in 90 days and that's the deadline we have given ourselves. The moment the new body takes over, the COA will leave. We would do exactly what Justice Vikramjit Sen did (handover reins to DDCA's elected body)," Rai told mediapersons here today.
Rai's announcement effectively means that BCCI AGM-cum-elections will be held in the last week of November.
Tripura Police Register Case Against a Person for Slandering Manik Sarkar
Tripura Police have registered a complaint against a person for allegedly slandering former chief minister Manik Sarkar in a social media post.
A West Agartala police station official said a general diary was registered on 21 August against the person for allegedly slandering Sarkar, a CPI-M Politburo member.
Advocate Kaushik Roy Debbarma had lodged the general diary with the police station, PTI reported.
