1. Heavy Rain Alert Till Saturday as Titli Wings Pack Punch
Calcutta is set to get heavy to very heavy showers till Saturday, 13 October, under the influence of Titli, which has intensified from a cyclone to a very severe cyclone and is poised to make landfall on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday morning.
According to the weather department’s projection, the rain is expected to go away by Monday, Sashthi.
“Heavy to very heavy rain” means anything between 60mm and 200m over 24 hours. “The rainfall that started on Wednesday will peak on Saturday,” an official in the weather department said.

2. 10 Metro Harassers Accused Get Bail
All 10 youths who allegedly harassed a 32-year-old woman in a Metro Railway coach all through the ride from Esplanade to Tollygunge were granted bail on Wednesday, 10 October.
Lawyers representing police in the Alipore court did not oppose the bail plea.
The 10 accused — aged between 18 and 24 — have been booked under IPC Sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force to a women with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment of the nature of unwelcome physical contact), 354D (stalking), 509 (using any word or gesture with intent to outrage modesty of a woman) and 34 (common intention).

3. NRC Cloud Over Durga Artisans
The NRC update has taken a toll on Lakhi Silpalaya, one of the oldest Durga idol-making shops in the city, with many of its artisans toiling to secure legacy documents instead of crafting idols. Business prospects, as a result, have dimmed.
Four artisans of the shop, whose names are missing from the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), have gone to their respective villages to ensure their own enrolment and that of their family members.
With the artisans, one of whom hails from Malibari village in Goalpara district and the others from Kamrup district, tied up with NRC work, Apuraj Pal, one of the chief idol makers of the shop, has decided to limit pratima (idol) orders to seven this year compared to 18 last year.

4. TMC Trying to Divide People on Religious Lines: BJP Over Doles to Durga Puja Committees
West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday, 10 October, accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of trying to divide the people of the state on religious lines by giving out doles during festivals to secure its vote bank.
Reacting to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's announcement to give Rs 10,000 each to 28,000 Durga puja committees in the state, he told reporters that the TMC government had earlier disbursed funds to Imams.

5. My Phones Being Tapped: Mukul Roy
BJP leader Mukul Roy Wednesday, 10 October, accused the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal of "illegally tapping" his phones after two audio clips of his purported telephonic conversation with his party's general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya were circulated on social media.
BJP state president Dilip Ghosh also blamed the West Bengal police for illegally tapping telephones of BJP leaders in the state.

6. 5-Yr-Old ‘Molested’ by Teacher in Kolkata: Day After Clash, Classes Resume Under Police Vigil
A day after a teacher from a Kolkata school was arrested — for allegedly molesting a minor student in September — amid a clash between parents and police at the gates, classes resumed under strict vigil Wednesday.
Though some students did not turn up, the situation remained peaceful in and around the school campus. Sources said school authorities are in talks with the education department to transfer all male teachers to another school as per the parents’ demands.
