Cyclonic Storm Alert in Odisha
The depression over the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, 9 October, intensified and moved towards Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast before taking the shape of a cyclonic storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The fear of a cyclonic storm thickened as the deep depression remained practically stationary and lay centered at about 560 km southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha and 510 km southeast of Kalingapatanam in Andhra Pradesh, it said.
He said the system is very likely to re-curve north-eastwards, move towards Gangetic West Bengal across Odisha and weaken gradually.

Odisha Prepares For Possible Floods
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off the Odisha coast and central and north Bay of Bengal till 12 October.
The Odisha government has been cautioned about possible floods in view of the heavy rainfall across the state.
The state government has issued alerts to all districts, particularly the districts in coastal region. The district collectors have been asked to remain alert and make necessary arrangements to shift people living in the low-lying areas.
Heavy Rainfall Likely to Lash South Coastal Odisha
Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, heavy rainfall is likely to lash at the following districts from Wednesday, 10 October.

- Puri
- Jagatsinghpur
The following districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from Thursday, 11 October.
- Kendrapara
- Khurda
- Nayagarh
- Cuttack
- Jajpur

- Dhenkanal
Rainfall would be accompanied by winds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to commence along and off Odisha coast from Tuesday night.
Cyclone to Move Towards Andhra, Odisha Coast on 11 October, Says IMD
The IMD has indicated that Cyclone Titli is likely to move towards the Andhra-Odisha coast on 11 October, and could bring heavy rainfall along the region over the next 24 hours, ANI reported.
The IMD has also warned the fishermen along the coast to not carry out any activities.
IMD Issues Red Alert in Odisha
The IMD has issued a red alert for Wednesday and Thursday in Odisha, predicting “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in the state, reported The Tribune.
Train Services Hit in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh
In view of Cyclone Titli, train services between Odisha’s Khurda Road and Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram will not be allowed after 10 pm and up trains from Howrah or Kharagpur will not be allowed from Bhadrak after 5.15pm till further notice, reported ANI.
Down trains from Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam will also not be allowed from Duvvada after 6.40pm and movement of passenger trains will not take place between Khurda Road and Vizianagaram section after 10pm till further advice, ANI reported.
Odisha CM Orders Evacuation of Five Coastal Areas
Patnaik, who took stock of the situation, has asked the collectors of Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts to go for an immediate evacuation of people in low-lying areas in the coastal belt, reported PTI.
Schools, Colleges to Remain Closed in Odisha on Thursday and Friday
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered closure of all schools, colleges and anganwadi centres on Thursday and Friday in view of IMD's forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state, reported PTI.
The college students union elections, earlier scheduled to be held on Thursday, have also been cancelled.
Cyclone to Hit Odisha-Andhra Pradesh Coast Tomorrow at 5:30 am
Cyclone Titli has been upgraded to ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm and is likely to make landfall between Gopalpur in Odisha and Kalingapatanam in Andhra Pradesh at 5:30 am on Thursday, 10 October, said Odisha chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.
“Collectors of five districts have been directed to start evacuation of people living in low-lying areas. Adequate relief provisions have been made," ANI quoted him as saying.
Cyclone Titli Likely to Maintain Intensity Till 11 October

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that following its landfall, the cyclone is very likely to maintain its intensity till the evening of 11 October, while moving northeastwards across Odisha.
Odisha Minister Urges People Not To Panic Buy
As the ‘very severe’ cyclone Titli approaches Odisha, people are not only buying extra provisions but also queuing up at petrol pumps to stock up on fuel.
Odisha’s food supplies and consumer welfare minister SN Patro on Wednesday appealed to the people not to go for panic buying of essential commodities, reported PTI.
The minister said that he has instructed all district collectors to keep a tab on the market as a section of traders are allegedly attempting to hoard essential items and said that the government will take stringent action against the hoarders.
NDRF Teams Deployed in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh
With Cyclone Titli approaching the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the government has deployed 14 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Odisha's Balasore, Sambhalpur, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Puri, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Bhubaneswar.
Four NDRF teams have also been deployed in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, Srikakulum and Vijaynagram, reported ANI.
Railway Recruitment Board Exams Cancelled in Odisha
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) of Bhubaneswar has cancelled the exams that were scheduled to be held on 11 and 12 October in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Khurda and Berhampur in view of cyclone Titli, reported ANI.
In a release, the chairman of RRB Bhubaneswar said that the revised schedule and locations for the examination will be sent to the registered mobile number and email of the candidates.
Odisha Byabasayi Mahasangha Asks Traders to Not Hike Prices
The apex body of traders in the state 'Odisha Byabasayi Mahasangha' said that the market has enough food items in store and hence, there should be no panic buying, reported PTI.
Spokesman Sudhakar Panda said the traders have been asked not to sell items like potatoes, onions and other items at high prices.
"The people are requested to inform the Mahasangha if anyone charges more price on commodities," Panda said adding that the people may also lodge complaint with the district collectors.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday, 10 October, said around three lakh people have been evacuated from the coastal areas of the state so far in view of the ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm Titli, reported PTI.
After holding the second review meeting at the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) during the day, he said, "If required, more people will be evacuated to safer places."

Cyclone 'Titli' Crosses Odisha Coast, No Loss of Life
Cyclone Titli uprooted trees and electric poles and damaged hutments in Odisha's Ganjam and Gajapati districts after making landfall early Thursday morning, but no loss of life was reported from any part of the state, officials told PTI.
The cyclone also triggered heavy rainfall in at least three districts and caused minor damage to power and communication.
"There has been no major damage or report of casualty received from any part of the state so far. Some destruction was reported from Ganjam and Gajapati districts," Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) B P Sethi said.

Five Fishermen Rescued
A fishing boat with five fishermen onboard capsized in Gopalpur owing to severe cyclonic storm, however, one of the three disaster and rescue teams operating in Gopalpur Paradip area rescued them brought them to safety, said Indian Coast Guard.

The Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) of Visakhapatnam said that north Andhra Pradesh may experience wind speed between 50-60 kmph till Thursday evening. It has advised fishermen not venture into the sea as the sea conditions prevailing over the west-central Bay of Bengal are very rough, reported ANI.
CWC further said that immediately after Cyclone Titli made its landfall, wind speeds reached 140-150 kmph.
"Gradually, it is weakening. Now, it will come down to 50-60 kmph. It'll prevail till evening today and maybe for sometime after night," Srinivas, Duty Officer of CWC told ANI.
Northeast Districts of Jharkhand Affected Due to Cyclone Titli: IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the northeast districts of Jharkhand have been affected due to Cyclone Titli.
“Rain will continue in places around Ranchi till tomorrow”, said BK Mandal, Director of IMD, Ranchi.
People in Odisha Shifted to Over 1100 Shelter Homes: Special Relief Commissioner
The Special Relief Commissioner said that since there was a warning about cyclone Titli, vulnerable areas have been identified and people have been shifted to shelters.
“We have a number of multi-purpose cyclone shelters across the state and we shifted people to over 1100 shelters. It was an elaborate operation, said B Sethi, Special Relief Commissioner.

Six Trains Cancelled, Many Rescheduled as Cyclone Titli Damages Railway Stations
In view of extensive damage to railway properties due to Cyclone Titli, East Coast Railway (ECoR) cancelled at least six trains including 22819/22820 Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express from both the directions on Thursday, 11 October and rescheduled some others, reported PTI.
Similarly, 22874 Visakhapatnam-Digha Express from Visakhapatnam and 18645 Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express from Howrah were also cancelled on Thursday, an ECoR official said.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday, 11 October and thanked him for the role played by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) during their operations in Odisha for Cyclone Titli, reported PTI.

Cyclonic storm Titli left a trail of destruction in two districts of West Bengal on Friday, killing one person and injuring 10 others, even as it weakened into a deep depression while moving northeastward.

Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to release an interim relief amount of Rs 1200 crore for aiding relief and restoration work. The north coastal region of the Andhra Pradesh including Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts were badly affected due to the cyclone.
At least 12 feared dead, four missing
At least 12 people are feared dead and four missing in the landslide triggered by heavy rain after cyclone Titli lashed across Odisha's Gajapati district, Special Relief Commissioner B P Sethi said, reported PTI.
The district collector of Gajapati was asked to visit the spot to ascertain the situation and give a detailed report. Financial assistance will be provided to those who have been affected, as per government provisions, he assured.
The area where the landslide took place was remote and the roads to location have been blocked by uprooted trees.
Ganjam Is the Worst-Affected
Among Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Puri, Kandhamal and Kendrapara districts that were affected by floods, Ganjam has been categorised as the "worst-affected," reported PTI.
As many as 1,27,262 people were sheltered in 963 relief centres on Friday, while the NDRF and the Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) were deployed to speed up rescue and relief operations, said Special Relief Commissioner B P Sethi.
Two Indian Navy helicopters have been engaged in air dropping operation in Ganjam district, said officials.
State Cancels Dusshera Vacation
The state government has cancelled the Dusshera vacation of all its employees in southern and central division, including Bhubaneswar, in view of cyclone Titli and subsequent flooding in different parts of the state, reported PTI.
A number of officials have been deployed in restoration work and helping over 60 lakh people who have been affected by the cyclone and flood.
Odisha CM Conducts Aerial Survey
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected districts of Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada on Saturday. He assured that all relief work and restoration was underway.
‘I shall have a meeting this evening in Bhubaneshwar after which I will announce a package for flood-affected people. Once we do a detailed research into this then we will decide how much fund to ask from Centre,’ he said.
Odisha CM Announces Relief for Families
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announced that affected families of Ganjam, Gajapati and Gunupur sub-division of Rayagada will be given relief for 15 days. On an average a family of 4 members will be assisted with more than Rs 3000 as relief.
Death toll climbs to 24 as flood situation improves in Odisha
The death toll in Cyclone Titli-hit Odisha rose to 24 on Sunday, 14 October, after two more bodies were pulled out of the rubble brought by a landslide in Gajapati district, even as the flood situation in the state improved marginally, officials told PTI.
Heavy rains pounded Odisha over the last three days following the cyclone's landfall on Gopalpur in the southwestern part of the state.
Fifteen people were killed in the Friday landslide in Gajapati's Barghar area, around 50 km from the district headquarters town of Paralakhemundi, Sub-Divisional Police Officer TP Patra said.
He said while 13 bodies were found Saturday night, two more bodies were pulled out of the rubble Sunday morning.
