India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises to 4.25 L; 2,909 New Cases in Delhi

India on Monday, 22 June, recorded 14,821 new COVID-19 cases and 445 deaths, taking its tally to 4,25,282 and the death toll to 13,699. According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 1,74,387 active cases, while 2,37,195 patients have been cured or discharged.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Monday reported 3,721 new coronavirus cases and 62 fatalities, taking the tally in the state to 1,35,796 and the death toll to 6,283. As many as 2,710 new infections were recorded in Tamil Nadu, taking its total number of cases to 62,087.

Delhi on Monday reported 2,909 new COVID-19 cases and 58 deaths, taking the tally in the national capital to 62,655 and the death toll to 2,233.
Highest Single-Day Rise in Cases on Sunday: WHO Director-General
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday said that more than 1,83,000 new cases of COVID-19 globally were reported to WHO on Sunday, which was the highest in a single day so far.
"More than 8.8 million COVID-19 cases have now been reported to WHO, and more than 4,65,000 people have lost their lives. Some countries are continuing to see a rapid increase in cases and deaths," he was quoted by ANI as saying.

SC Takes U-Turn, Allows Rath Yatra in Puri

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami has tested negative for coronavirus, the state's Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said on Monday, reported PTI.
2,710 New COVID-19 Cases in Tamil Nadu, Tally Rises to 62,087
Tamil Nadu on Monday reported 2,710 new COVID-19 cases and 37 deaths, taking the tally to 62,087 and the death toll to 794.
Meanwhile, Kerala reported 138 new cases on Monday, taking the tally to 3,310. The death toll in the state stands at 21.
Satyendar Jain's Health Condition Improves, Shifted to General Ward
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on 17 June, has been shifted to the general ward following improvement in his health condition, with his oxygen support being removed, his office said on Monday, reported ANI.
Complete Lockdown in Madurai, Adjoining Areas
The Tamil Nadu government on Monday said that complete lockdown will be implemented in the jurisdiction of the Madurai Corporation limits, the Paravai Town Panchayat, and the rural blocks of Madurai East, Madurai West and Thiruparankundram from 24 to 30 June.
Strictly Implement Lockdown Measures in COVID-19 Clusters: Karnataka CM to Officials
Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa on Monday directed officials to strictly implement lockdown measures in clusters that have reported more number of COVID-19 cases, reported PTI.
"It has been decided that clusters (areas having 3-4 cases) will be totally sealed and maximum testing will be done there. Only critical cases will be shifted to COVID-19 hospitals. I demanded that police personnel are tested on priority," Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai was quoted by ANI as saying.
Recovery Rate for COVID-19 Patients at 55.77% in India: Health Ministry
The WHO Situation Report 153 of 21 June shows that India has one of the lowest cases per lakh population in spite of its high population density, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday. India’s cases per lakh population are 30.04, while the global average is more than its triple, at 114.67, the Ministry pointed out.
“The recovery rate is 55.77 percent among COVID-19 patients,” the ministry said in a statement.

Karnataka Maintaining Stability of Recovery Rate: Health Minister
Karnataka Health Minister said the state is maintaining the recovery rate for COVID-19 patients.
“We are steadily maintaining a healthy recovery rate of 61.39% and mortality rate remains low at 1.49%. We are continuing to effectively trace contacts of positive case within 24 hours and every inter-state arrival is being quarantined for 14 days,” B Sriramulu said.
India Fighting Two Wars Against China: Kejriwal
Apprising the media over the COVID-19 situation in Delhi, CM Kejriwal said that India is fighting two wars against China and this is time to stand unitedly.
“There has been a three times in testing, earlier it was 5,000 tests per day, now it is around 18,000 per day. Now people will not face any issues in getting tested,” he said.
“All those under home-isolation will be provided with pulse oximeters to measure your oxygen levels every few hours. Once you are well, you can return it to the government,” Kejriwal said.
“Today we are fighting two wars against China - one at the border and another against the virus from China. Our 20 brave soldiers did not back down, we also will not retreat and will win both the wars:,” he added.
Delhi HC Dismisses PIL on Faulty PPE Kits
Delhi High Court dismissed a PIL seeking action against the manufacturers of faulty and substandard PPE kits under the guise of COVID-19 kits, and to regulate the import manufacture, sale and circulation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coveralls, ANI reported.
69 New Cases in Nagaland
Out of 275 samples tested, 69 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Nagaland. The total number of positive cases stands at 280, of which 139 are active and 141 have recovered.
70 New Cases in Lucknow
Out of the 2142 samples tested yesterday for COVID-19, results of 70 are found to be COVID-19 positive, ANI reported quoting King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.

Delhi Govt Directs DM's to Follow Decisions of SDMA
All District Magistrates are directed to implement the decision of SDMA, the Delhi government said. “All individuals who are positive will be referred to the COVID care centres for assessment of clinical conditions, severity of illness and presence of co-morbidities.”
“District Magistrates are required to ensure that all daily reported positive cases are physically verified immediately but not later than 24 hours,” the government said.
57 Girls of Kanpur Shelter Home Found COVID-19 Positive
At least 57 girls at a government shelter home in Kanpur have been found COVID-19 positive. BR Tiwari, District Magistrate said, “57 positive cases have been reported, all admitted to hospitals. Five girls among them are pregnant, they were brought there under various POCSO cases from different places.”
“All five were already pregnant when they were brought at the shelter home. Other than that, 2 other pregnant girls living at the shelter have tested negative for COVID-19,” he said.
