1. Mumbai Shelter Home Scripts History As Five Rescued Girls Ace SSC Exams
Ruhi (name changed) was only in school when her parents got separated. The girl, who originally hails from a small village in Orissa, later came with her mother to Mumbai, where the two took up odd jobs to survive.
One fateful day, without her mum's knowledge, her aunt forced her into prostitution on the lure of making big money. Scared of the stigma, Ruhi faced the torment alone. Things changed when the girl was rescued by the police and sent to a shelter home. Today, the 17-year-old is among five girls from the Deonar Shelter Home to have passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, making them the first in the city's history to clear the exam from a special home.
The girls, who hail from Orissa, West Bengal and Maharashtra, were rescued by the police under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act and were undergoing rehabilitation at the Deonar home.

2. BJP MLA Wants Gateway Renamed As Bharat Dwar
Describing it as a symbol of “slavery”, BJP MLA Raj Purohit has demanded the iconic Gateway of India be renamed as Bharat Dwar. “This monument is a symbol of slavery under the British rule,” Purohit said.
“By renaming it we will be paying tributes to the martyrs of freedom struggle.”
He said he had already met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and was promised his demanded will be looked into.

3. 11-Year-Old First Dengue Victim Of 2017 In Mumbai
An 11-year-old boy from Santacruz died of suspected dengue at a city hospital on Tuesday. This would be the first dengue death in the city so far this year.
Civic officials didn’t confirm the case and Surya Hospital refused to comment when HT contacted them.
On Wednesday evening, his school principal posted about the boy’s death on a social networking site. “Today we lost a dear student of Grade 6 to dengue. The sad news has left all of us shaken. Our sincerest condolences to the grieving family for whom this loss is irreparable…Such a thin thread with which we hold on to life. Any time it can snap,” it read.

4. Those Who Order War Must Be Sent To The Front: Salman Khan
Bajrangi Bhaijaan star Salman Khan, whose new movie Tubelight attempts to highlight the futility of wars, says such acts of violence between nations can stop if those who "order" wars are sent to the front and asked to fight.
"I think those who order war should be sent to the war front, given guns and asked to fight first. It will stop in one day. Their hand and legs will start trembling... It will stop and they will go straight to the table and have discussions," Salman told media here on Tuesday.

5. Two Arrested For ‘Molesting’ Woman In Thane And Pushing Her Out Of Moving Autorickshaw
A week after a 23-year-old dietician was allegedly molested and pushed out of a moving autorickshaw in Thane, the police have claimed that they have arrested two accused. The arrested duo are the autorickshaw driver and a co-passenger involved in the alleged crime.
A complaint registered against unidentified persons on June 7 had led to concerns over the safety of women travelling in autorickshaws in Thane and a delegation of women autorickshaw drivers had approached the Thane police last week raising the concerns. The Joint Commissioner of Police, Thane, Madhukar Pandey, said: “After the incident came to light, we formed 10 teams as it was a sensitive issue. Eventually, we arrested the two accused, Santosh Lokhande and Lahoo Ghogare, who were behind the attack.”

6. MMRDA Plans To Use Drones To Monitor Illegal Constructions
Facing difficulties in curbing a spate of illegal constructions in areas where it has been appointed as the Special Planning Authority (SPA), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is considering conducting aerial surveys with unmanned aerial systems (UAS) or drones to map the areas. Attached with 360-degree cameras, this technology will help the MMRDA to identify any encroachment or unauthorised construction that comes up in future.
“We have suggested a drone survey for all our SPA areas except the airport. We have had discussions about it and are submitting a proposal. The data obtained through the survey will prove to be helpful in the long run. In cases of encroachments, we will have all the data about it,” said a senior MMRDA official.

7. Mira-Bhayandar Gets New Police Body
The satellite town of Mira-Bhayander will soon have a police commissionerate. This decision was taken by Maharshtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at a meeting dedicated to solve problems of Mira-Bhayandar.
Mira-Bhayandar is currently being controlled by the superintendent of Thane (rural).
The CM also assured the local MLAs and corporators that bringing down the age limit of old buildings from 30 years to 25 years to facilitate their redevelopment, will also be considered.
