Along with many things that were done differently during this Republic Day celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time sent personalised R-Day wishes to 18 lakh police service personnel through an SMS.

“Happy Republic Day. I salute the courage and service of lakhs of police personnel like you,” it read and was sent by DZ-PMModi.

The 67th Republic Day celebrations had quite a few things different than the previous ones. Along with the SMS to police personnel, the comeback of the dog squad and a French soldiers’ contingent as a part of the parade, made the 67th Republic day parade unique.

The Narendra Modi app was promoted in the SMS that was sent to personnel ranging from the Director General rank officer to the constabulary, working with both state and central governments.

This is, perhaps, the first time that a Prime Minister has directly communicated to all policemen across the country in one go.

The Prime Minister during the three-day DGPs conference held in Gujarat in December 2015 had asked all state and central police heads and other policing organisation heads to send a list of all contact numbers before 26 January.
