Hours after the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2022 took off to a chaotic start on Friday, 15 July due to last-minute changes in the exam centres of several students, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that no retest will be held for those who missed Friday's CUET.

Earlier, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that "CUET is a step towards quality and standardisation."

Many students told The Quint that due to last-minute changes they had to change their travel plans, and many of them couldn't reach the centre on time.

The first slot commenced at 9 am and concluded at 12:15 pm, whereas the second slot exams were held from 3 pm to 6:45 pm.

  • Close to 14.90 lakh candidates are appearing for the exams on Friday.

  • The CUET UG examination is scheduled for 15 July-20 August in and around 500 cities across India and 10 cities outside India.

  • All Class 12 graduates can apply for the CUET UG 2022 exam. The university admission test will be held till 20 August.

  • CUET score will be released in percentile format, which means it will indicate the position of a candidate vis-a-vis other candidates.

'No Retest': UGC Chairman

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said on Friday evening that no retest will be held for those who missed Friday's Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate admissions to central universities.

This came hours after reports from several cities stated that students missed the paper due to sudden changes in exam centres.

The first-ever CUET is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in two phases.

Slot 2 Exam Concludes

The chaotic first day of CUET concluded on Friday evening. Many students were troubled due to last-minute changes in exam centres. However, NTA has confirmed that such students will be given an opportunity to appear in second phase.

Exam Cancelled at Two Centes

CUET exam at two centres in West Bengal's New Jalpaiguri and Punjab's Pathankot was cancelled due to technical issues, reported news agency PTI.

'Did Not Receive a Response from NTA About Scribe': CUET UG Aspirant

Shreya Chaturvedi, a student with special needs, and her family had been trying desperately to reach out to NTA to find out if she would be provided with a scribe for CUET as mentioned in the guidelines.

Eventually she had to go with her own scribe as they did not receive a response from the NTA. She also said that there was no ramp inside the examination centre.

After the exam, she said that it went well and she has three more papers on Saturday, 16 July.

CUET Slot 2 Exam Begins

The second slot of CUET exam commenced at 3 pm on Friday and is scheduled to conclude at 6:45 pm.

After a chaotic slot 1 of CUET exams on Friday morning, entry begins for slot 2 papers. The second slot papers will begin at 3 pm.

Candidates who Missed the Exam Due to Centre Change, Can Appear in August: NTA Officials

Due to last-minute changes in exam centres, many CUET UG aspirants missed their papers in the first slot on Friday morning.

Those candidates who could not appear for the exam on Friday due to last-minute change in exam centre on Thursday, will be allowed to appear for the exam in second phase in August, said a senior NTA official.

"Over 190 candidates who were to appear at the two centres will not be allowed to appear in the second phase in August. At other centres, the candidates who could not appear due to changes in exam centres will also get another chance," the official added.

'Exam was Easy': CUET Candidates, Check Paper Analysis

After the conclusion of the first slot of CUET exam, students say that the exam was easy. "Exam was easy but the general test was a bit tough, but overall it was good," said Prachi Kaushik, a CUET UG aspirant who appeared for the first slot exam on Friday morning.

Navya Sharma from Sahibabad, UP also said that the general test was a bit difficult but other two exams were easy.

Another candidate, Gargi Sharma from Saket, Delhi said that the paper was 'fine'. She appeared for English, Sociology, Political Science and General test papers. "Political Science was very good, Sociology was fine, and questions in General test were also easy but I struggled with Mathematics questions," she added.

'Did Not Receive Any Call Or Message' Says a Family Member of a Student

CUET exam centre of Mansi Diwan was also changed on Thursday. Her family claims that they did not receive any call or message about the same which is why they reached Dwarka on Friday morning, and then had to rush to the new centre.

"We did not receive any message or call about the change in exam centre. So we reached our centre in Dwarka Sector 3 at 6:40 am. The guard there told our that our centre is Maurice Nagar, Delhi University. Then we reached the new centre at 8:10 am and joined the entry queue. Upon reaching the gate, the guard told us that we need to get a new printout of the admit card because of the changed address. After getting the print out, they told us that we are late and won't be allowed to enter. But later she (Mansi) was allowed to sit for the exam," said a family member of Mansi.

'It is Mismanagement' Says a Parent

A lot of candidates who were not allowed to enter the examination centre are waiting outside the centre along with their parents and guardians.

"Centre was not disclosed till last two days. After disclosing the centre they changed it again at the eleventh hour. Students reached Dwarka, where they found out that their centre is changed to Delhi University. There is around 30kms difference between both the locations. The exam was supposed to start at 9 am, but many students reached the centre around 9:30," said a distressed parent.

"It is total chaos and mismanagement" he added.

Last Minute Change in Exam Centre Caused Delay

Many students were not able to reach their updated examination centres on time because of the last-minute changes in exam centres.

Ritika and Lilita reached the exam centre at Delhi University North Campus at 11 am on Friday, two hours after the CUET began. Their centre was changed from Dwarka to North campus last minute and they missed the email with the new admit card.

Both the candidates were not allowed to enter the exam centre.

"We reached our exam centre (Dwarka) where we were told our centre is changed," said Lalita, from Govindpuri.

"We received a mail (about the updated centre) but we are not constantly checking our phones so we missed it," she added.

'Centre Was Changed Last Minute from Dwarka to DU': Delhi Students

Many parents and guardians of students say that their centres were changed in the last minute.

Rashid, brother of Sabia, said that they got a call about the change in exam centre at 7:30 pm on Thursday, 14 July.

Exams for First Slot Underway

While the exams for the first slot commenced at 9 am and are scheduled to end by 12:15 pm, the second slot is scheduled from 3 pm to 6:45 pm.
