It’s been 25 years since Friends first aired in September 22, 1994. The show, set in early 90s New York City, finds relevance even today. The characters Rachel, Ross, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler and Monica are hugely popular in the pop culture space. However, when the show first aired, the cast did not expect it to be renewed for even a second season, let alone ten seasons. “Everyone was kind of keeping their distance and not really investing too much emotionally,” David Schwimmer, who plays Ross Geller in the show, later recalled on Oprah’s talk show.

Each of the five main characters of Friends are iconic in their own way. They come with their own unique traits and that’s what makes them so special. So in case you’ve ever looked at your partner and wondered if they had similarities to any of the Friends characters, here’s a handy guide!

Rachel Green: The Fashionista

Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston, is a spoilt brat who runs away on her wedding day to make it on her own in the city. She’s unaware and clueless about what she’ll do. But guess what, ten years later...we see she’s figured it out.

I didn’t have to put beef in the desert?!?

Ross Geller: The Geeky One

Ross is a good guy who loves proposing. He falls in love a lot and then goes right out and messes things up. He geeks up at the slightest mention of words like ‘dinosaurs’, ‘museums’ and of course.. ‘paleontologist’.

We were on a break!

Phoebe Buffay: The Dependable one

Phoebe, as we know it, has had a rough life which she just randomly throws in every now and then. She loves her guitar and her songs that are ‘very real’. She’s someone who’s always there to save the day and relieve you of all the pain with a nice massage.

Joey Tribbiani: The Wannabe Actor

Joey only has two motives in life: to flirt and to eat out of Monica’s refrigerator. He wants to make it big as an actor but *sigh*, can he even act? Umm, no. Joey is also the guy who keeps the group amazed with how he’s living life and shocks them, more often than not.

Joey doesn’t share food!

Chandler Bing: The Awkward One

Chandler is the one who makes jokes when he’s uncomfortable. His life is sorted. He earns well for himself and Joey. He’s the guy who usually has some on-point observations and says it without the slightest ‘err’. Also, he gets really offended if you don’t understand that he’s the funniest guy in the group.

Hi, I’m Chandler. I make jokes when I’m uncomfortable.

Monica Geller: The Control Freak

Monica is the host for all things She’s the friend who will feed you, push you to workout, be your wedding planner, lend you a ear when you wish to talk. And most importantly, her (apartment) door is always open for you to walk in. Which is also the reason why most episodes are just within the four walls of that apartment.

Really appreciate if you could out the cap back on the pens.
