Here’s How Google Is Celebrating ‘Friends’ Characters

As the iconic sitcom Friends completes 25 years, there’s much to reminisce about the cult TV show that first aired on 22 September, 1994. From iconic phrases like “We were on a break!” to “Ugly Naked Guy” jokes that only got funnier with time, Friends has inspired a whole generation (or even multiple generations?) of television enthusiasts who looked forward to Thursdays every week.
Now, to mark this special anniversary, Google has come up with a whole bunch of exciting tricks. All you have to do is type the name of a Friends character followed by the word ‘friends’ and click on search. Once the results show up, click on the tiny Friends related graphic on the right (just below the images). And watch what happens.

Ross Geller
For Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer, the graphic is that of a couch and when you click on it, prepare to hear Ross’ voice screaming “pivot!” But don’t stop there. Make sure to click on it 4 times. Each time, the screen moves until finally the couch falls apart.
The dialogue is from a popular episode where Ross is trying to take a couch up the stairs.
Phoebe Buffay
For a soulful rendition of Phoebe Buffay’s iconic ‘Smelly Cat’, the one that’s etched both in our minds and our hearts, Google Phoebe’s name. A guitar graphic will pop up. Click on it and lose yourself to the world of Friends once again.
Rachel Green
When Friends first became popular, the Rachel haircut made quite the statement. Played by Jennifer Anniston, the Rachel haircut is still considered iconic. So a Google search for Rachel will take you to the Google images page of ‘The Rachel’.
Monica Geller
Monica’s defining traits were her exceptional cooking talent, her obsession with cleanliness and her past as a ‘fat’ person. Google pays homage to her obsession with cleanliness. When you click on the bucket graphic, a sponge appears and begins cleaning your screen.
Joey Tribbiani
The Google trick for Joey brings back his iconic dialogue, “Joey doesn’t share food.” When you click on the slice of pizza that appears on the screen, more food items start appearing. Followed by Joey’s hands as they grab all the food and scream “Joey doesn’t share food!”
Chandler Bing
When you Google Chandler’s names, a recliner appears on the right corner. Once you click on it, a duck and a chick pretty much take over your screen. A tribute to the pet duck and the chick once owned by Joey and Chandler.
But that’s not it. An important aspect of Rachel’s character was her amazing fashion sense that even landed her a job at Ralph Lauren. So now, to celebrate the anniversary, the fashion label has come up with a Friends-inspired line as a tribute to Rachel’s fictional career at the company. The line is called ‘The One Where They Wear Ralph Lauren’ and is inspired by Rachel’s outstanding dressing sense.
