Ever since the trailer of Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Dream Girl has been dropped, we are all excited to see what the film is about. However, there seems to be some trouble for the film, mid-day reported. The makers of Dream Girl have been accused of plagiarism by filmmaker Janak Toprani. Toprani has alleged that his 2017 film Call For Fun bears resemblance to the Raaj Shaandilyaa directorial, produced by Balaji Telefilms. Dream Girl recounts the story of a man (Ayushmann Khurrana), donning the appearance of a woman.

Toprani told mid-day that he had approached Balaji with his script twice, only to be turned down by them. “I then got a financier and made Call For Fun last year,” he said. However, the filmmaker added that Ekta Kapoor wasn’t part of the discussion.

“I tried to contact the CEO of Balaji, Nachiket Pantvaidya, but he did not answer my calls. If Dream Girl is similar to my film, I am ready to fight the legal battle,” Toprani told mid-day. Director Raaj Shaandilyaa, however, claimed that the idea of the film is his and his co-writer’s and they have even registered it.

Previously, Ayushmann’s another film Bala was embroiled in a similar controversy. Writer and assistant director Kamal Kant Chandra had filed a police complaint accusing Ayushmann Khurrana, director Amar Kaushik and producer Dinesh Vijan for starting the shoot of Bala despite his objections over the script of the film. Kamal Kant has stated that he had registered the script of the tales of a balding man much before Ayushmann’s film was announced.
