The popular open-source browser Mozilla Firefox encountered a bug it its desktop software. The bug was deemed “critical” in terms of its impact and Mozilla urged its users to update their browsers with an emergency patch.

The patch was released after Mozilla discovered that the current version of the browser has zero-day vulnerability. The term zero day may refer to the vulnerability itself, or an attack that has zero days between the time the vulnerability is discovered and the first attack.

The bug is described as a ‘type confusion vulnerability’ as it allows outside users to execute code on your device without your permission.

The bug was first reported by a member of Google Project Zero.

Although Mozilla Firefox is set to update automatically by default, but if you have turned it off here’s how you can update it manually.

If you are a Firefox user, go to the three-bar menu on the browser and click “help”. Select “About Firefox”. It will check for updates and download it automatically. Once the download is complete, click “Restart to Update Firefox” and the browser will update with the latest patch in place.
