Huawei has taken a bold step by opting to compete with the likes of Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Apple iPad Pro with its new 2-in-1 MateBook. This Windows 10 powered portable PC will be globally available later this year with prices starting from $699 (Rs 47,500 approx), going up to $1599 (Rs 1,08,700 approx) for the top variant.

MateBook comprises of a 12-inch display with 2160x1440 pixels resolution that doesn’t beat the Surface or the iPad Pro but is still worth its weight. The company claims to have made the MateBook last the mile with over 9 hours of battery life which is ideal for on-the-go users.

The 2-in-1 runs on Intel’s Core M processors and is available with either 4GB or 8GB RAM.

The MateBook works best when you combine the detachable keyboard, stylus and the dock station. However, you will have to buy them separately for $129, $59 and $89 respectively which ideally should come bundled.

It’s too early to comment on whether the MateBook has got the wits to rival the Surface Pro 4 or the iPad Pro, but all will be decided once the prices are announced.
