The Eliminator between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad saw a dramatic finish to the first innings in Vizag on Wednesday, 8 May.

In a bid to finish on a high, the SRH batsmen were going great guns in the last few overs. However, Delhi’s Keemo Paul was handed the ball for the final over of the innings, and he picked up three wickets while giving away 11 runs as Sunrisers eventually posted 162/8 in their 20 overs.

As Paul bowled the penultimate ball of the final over, Deepak Hooda missed hitting it, but darted down for run as he tried to squeeze in a single. However, as wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant threw the ball to the non-striker’s end, a sprinting Hooda collided with Paul in the middle of the pitch and didn’t manage to make the crease in time.

The on-field umpires then got together and had a discussion with Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer, inquiring whether Hooda’s run-out could be overturned due to the collision. While Iyer had agreed to let Hooda stay at the crease, Pant protested against the decision and the Sunrisers batsman eventually had to walk back to the hut.

Fair or No? Twitter Has Their Say

Earlier, in the game, Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to field first. Sunrisers lost wickets at regular intervals and never really got any momentum in their innings.

Martin Guptill (36) and Manish Pandey (30) scored in their thirties, as contributions from Kane Williamson (28), Vijay Shankar (25) and Mohammed Nabi (20) helped Sunrisers get past the 160-run mark.
