Twitter was sent into a frenzy on Friday night (IST) when activist Malala Yousafzai joined the micro-blogging site.
She wrote on Twitter that her last day of high school is her first day on Twitter.
Within five hours of joining Twitter, Malala had 175,000 followers. The youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, was born in a Taliban controlled area of Pakistan in 1997.
She was hurled into limelight after a failed attack at her life in October 2012 by a Talibani militant.
Since then, Malala has actively pursued the cause of female education and is credited to have said:
I don’t want to be thought of as ‘the girl who was shot by the Taliban’ but ‘the girl who fought for education’.
Malala has penned a book on her experiences I Am Malala and in 2017 she became the youngest person ever to address Canada’s House of Commons.
