What does an Indian version of the Wolf of Wall Street look like?

Like a BCom student living with a 30-year-old dream of making it big and becoming Paytm CEO, but life was average until he finds himself suddenly waking up to demonetisation and screaming, “Eureka!”

Yes, that was Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar – high on satisfaction and his brain swimming in alcohol – at a Paytm party.

Paytm has tasted success quite unexpectedly so, since demonetisation robbed Indians of cash. And Paytm got the advertising opportunity for life that it didn’t have to pay for. Vijay Shekhar also acknowledges this god-given (read: Modi-given) opportunity in his speech packed with adrenaline.

In his rockstar gait, he said:

There is no problem, no roadblock, no milestone that is difficult for us... we are tank and we will roll over everyone. Saala jab itihas likha jayega na, hamara itihas mein naam zaroor hoga. (Loose translation: We will be so awesome, we will be etched in history)

Of course, no one has the slightest idea about how he will eradicate poverty with an app like he says, the people are torn apart between whether the speech was proper or improper.

Most people high on etiquette have been shocked to silence over Shekhar’s choice of words, but many others familiar with commerce-speak chose to let it pass.
