(This piece is being reposted from The Quint’s archives in light of the case where a woman was stalked and harassed by two men, including a BJP leader’s son, in Chandigarh. It was originally published on 22 September 2016 to discuss the all important question posed to women: Should you be carefree or careful?)

Shoojit Sircar’s Pink has created the space for debate. People are debating multiple things, for example, should the girls have gone to the resort, and how can one interpret what a ‘signal’ is?

The Quint’s newsroom got together to have debate some of these issues. The broad question was: Should you be careful or carefree?

Some of the points that were raised were: To what extent can the State protect you, regardless of your gender? If we keep asking women to be ‘safe’ and ‘cautious’, will we ever be able to sensitise society to seeing women in short skirts, smoking in public and going out at night?

Watch and let us know what your stance is.
