An estimated 95 percent of suicide cases are caused by either a disease or a disorder. However, the suicide case of former Director General of Corporate Affairs BK Bansal's family falls in the remaining 5 percent, Doctor Mrinal Jha Junior Consultant at VIMHANS said.

Humans are genetically programmed to survive and adapt, said Dr Jha, but the conditions have to be exceptionally suffocating; a person must feel trapped to take the fatal and sure step to end one’s life.

BK Bansal's wife Satyabala (57) and daughter Neha (27) were found hanging in their house a day after he was arrested for accepting a bribe from a pharmaceutical company representative.
