From false claims made by the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the city's air quality to misinformation about Sunita Williams's time in space and manipulated videos created using artificial intelligence (AI), here are the top pieces of fake news that we debunked this week.

1. Delhi Recorded Clean Air for the First Time in 3 Yrs? No, Claim Is Misleading

A post is circulating on social media asserting that residents of Delhi experienced clean air for the first time in three years, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reported at about 85 in the region.

The official X account of the BJP in Delhi claimed, "Delhi residents experienced clean air for the first time in three years."

Although Delhi registered an AQI of 85 on 15 March 2025, the state has experienced AQI levels under 100 (satisfactory range) numerous times in the last three years. This renders the assertion deceiving.

2. Fact-Check: This Image Was Released by ISRO and Not Taken by Sunita Williams

A photo sourced from Space is circulating to claim that it depicts the recently held Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, India, captured by astronaut Sunita Williams. Those sharing have also stated that Falguni Pandya, William's cousin, mentioned she sent her this photograph of the Kumbh taken from space

However, the claim is false as this image has been taken by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and not Williams, as claimed.

3. Video Showing Kangana Ranaut & CM Yogi Adityanath Hugging Is AI-Manipulated

A video of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hugging Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut went viral on social media.

However, this video has been modified with artificial intelligence (AI) technology tools. The original visuals are dated 1 October 2021, depicting Ranaut's meeting with CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

4. Fact-Check: Video of RSS Leader at Iftar Party Falsely Linked to Nagpur Violence

A video has gone viral on social media, asserting that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar attended an iftar party when the recent communal violence broke out in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

However, the claim is false. This video is from Delhi's Nizamuddin area where the iftar was held on 15 March, that is, two days before the violence in Nagpur.

5. Fact-Check: Video of Sudha Murthy Promoting Investment Platform Is Altered!

A clip featuring philanthropist and Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murthy endorsing an online investment platform is circulating on social media.

She promoted a financial platform called Quantum AIcreated to assist Indian families in generating income by investing an amount of money.

No, the claim is false. The original video was altered with artificial audio to create the clip. It actually shows an interview of Murthy conducted by CNBC-TV 18 in 2023, where she did not endorse any such platforms.
