Video Showing Kangana Ranaut & CM Yogi Adityanath Hugging Is AI-Manipulated

A video showing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut hugging each other is going viral online.

What's the truth?: This video has been altered using AI tools.

• The original visuals are from 1 October 2021, when Ranaut met CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

How did we find out the truth?: We noticed watermarks of “Minimax” and “Hailuo AI”; these are AI tools used to create and manipulate visuals using text commands.

Next, we performed a Google reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the video which led us to a post shared by Yogi Adityanath Office.

• This was shared on X (formerly Twitter) on 1 October 2021 and carried the same image showing Ranaut and CM Adityanath posing for a photograph.

• It also mentioned that Ranaut visited the official residence of the CM in Lucknow.

• We then checked Ranaut's official Instagram account and found similar visuals from 2021.

• She shared images and videos from the meetup; however, none of the visuals showed the duo hugging.

• We also found a news report shared by Aaj Tak on 2 October 2021, which showed visuals of Ranaut and CM Adityanath together.

• The report also did not mention or include any altered visuals of the duo hugging.

Conclusion: An altered video showing Kangana Ranaut hugging Yogi Adityanath is going viral online.
