What we found: We divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

  • We came across the same video on Facebook. However, a user commented under the post stating that the video was from India and not Bangladesh.

  • The same results led us to another video on Facebook which stated that a woman was killed in Joynagar, West Bengal.

  • We searched on Google about the same and came across a video report by a YouTube channel of news outlet Vision 18 Bangla.

  • It carried the same visuals as the viral video. However, they were blurred.

  • It stated that an unidentified woman was found, covered in blood in the Bakultala police station area which comes under Joynagar.

  • Other news outlets such as Zee News also covered the incident. The report stated that an e-rickshaw driver found the woman in the condition on a road next to an empty paddy field.

  • Another report by the Hindustan Times stated that the police suspected two people who were spotted on a CCTV camera on a motorcycle as the accused.

Police comments: We reached out to Pradip Roy, officer in-charge of the Bakultala police station who confirmed to The Quint that the incident was from Joynagar in West Bengal and there was no communal angle, as claimed.

Conclusion: The viral video is not from Bangladesh but West Bengal, India.
