What we found: At first, we divided he video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

  • We were led to an Instagram page called Shanghai.explore which featured the same viral clip. It was uploaded on 2 January.

  • The date stamp made it clear that the clip was unrelated to the this IPL season which ended on 3 June where the RCB were winners.

  • The post noted that the clip was from Nanchang in China.

  • We also found the same video uploaded on news outlet Shanghai Eye's YouTube page on 1 January.

  • The news outlet noted that it showed a gathering at Nanchang city centre to release balloons in celebration of the New Year.

Conclusion: An old and unrelated video has gone viral to falsely claim that it shows a public celebration for RCB's maiden IPL trophy.
