How did we find out the truth?: We performed a relevant keyword search on Google, which led us to several reports from 2018.

  • Reports by The Guardian , NBC News, Vox, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter stated that Niro won a standing ovation at Tony awards for "attacking the president" by abusing him.

  • These reports were dated 11 June 2018.

  • The Guardian report carried the video and stated, "Appearing on stage at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, De Niro declared: "___ Trump". As the applauding audience rose to their feet, De Niro continued: ‘It’s no longer down with Trump".

There are no recent reports about De Niro making a similar speech at the 97th Academy Awards.

Conclusion: A video of Robert De Niro swearing at Donald Trump at 2018 Tony awards is being falsely linked to 97th Academy Awards.
