A video showing a woman in a burqa, standing with a man wearing a skullcap, is being shared on social media and has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter).

In the clip, the two say that the woman married her uncle because she was in love with him, claiming that Muslim culture permits such marriages.

Is it real?: No, the video is a staged one.

It was made by content creator Ankita Karotiya, who has made similar videos about controversial marriages in the past.

How did we find out the truth?: We took several screenshots of the video and ran reverse image searches on them using various search engines.

  • Google's reverse image search led us to a Facebook page named 'Ankita Karotiya 2.0', which had shared the same video on 23 February.

  • We carefully watched this video, and saw that at the six-minute mark, a disclaimer flashes for a fraction of a second.

  • It reads, "This video is purely made for entertainment purposes only."

This is not the first time Karotiya's video about getting married have gone viral.

  • In December 2024, several news outlets shared one of her videos, claiming that it shows a real incident of a young woman marrying her father.
