A photo showing the inside of a run down classroom with bare walls and no tables or chairs is being shared on social media, to claim that it shows the condition of government schools under the Aam Aadmi Party-led (AAP) Delhi government.

Another post sharing this claim can be seen here.

But...?: The photo does not show a classroom in a school run by the Delhi government.

  • It dates back to July 2013, months before Kejriwal first became chief minister, and shows a school in Chapra, Bihar.

How did we find out the truth?: We ran a reverse image search on the classroom's photo, which led us to several news reports.

  • These reports, published over the years since 2014, carried the same image in several news articles about education.

  • One such report by The Quint, published in 2018, also carried the photo with a caption mentioning that it showed a school in Bihar. The image was credited to news agency Reuters.

  • Taking a cue from this, we looked for more details about the photograph in Reuters pictures' archive, using the keyword 'Chapra'.

  • We found there photograph here, which said that it was taken in Brahimpur village in Bihar's Chapra district on 19 July 2013.

Conclusion: An 11-year-old photo from Bihar is being shared to falsely claim that it shows the condition of government schools in Delhi.
