A video of a woman claiming that Indian army "tortured her and her mother and also kidnapped her husband" is going viral online.
It shows her wearing the flag of Nagaland while there are massive bruises on her face.
The claim also identifies the woman as 'Sophia Naga'.
More about this:
We found a Facebook account on the same name, Sophia Naga, however, the page carried images of different women, all pretending to be Sophia.
For example, when we performed a reverse image search on the profile picture, it led us to a Wikimedia Commons page about 'Lotha Naga girl'.
The image was credited to Alex Lotha, a photographer from Nagaland and his Instagram account carried images of the same woman which were shared in 2021.
The caption did not mention her to be Sophia, we reached out to Lotha for more details about this woman and the photograph.
He told us that the woman in the photograph is one from Nagaland's Wokha village.
"She is not a model, I just took her picture at an cultural event in Wokha village. I took this picture in the February 2021," he added.
We also noticed that this account was recently created on 30 March 2025 and all the images and videos were shared back to back.
Several comments under Sophia's videos also point out that she does not have an accent from Nagaland but rather has a Filipino accent.
We also found Sophia's X (formerly Twitter) account where same Facebook posts about Nagaland and against India were shared.
This account was also created in March 2025.
Another fake account: From this account, we found another account of one Alila Chophy Naga, who reposted Sophia's post to show support to her and Nagaland.
Both the accounts posted content against India and Indian army.
However, we found out that Alila's account's admins are located in Pakistan and not India or Nagaland.
We also ran a reverse image search on some of the images shared by this account and it led us to a different account of May Low, a real estate agent.
Any reports?: Moreover, we did not find any credible reports about Sophia and her family being tortured by the Indian army in Nagaland.
