A video of people running away while heavy smoke is seen in the background is being circulated with a claim that it shows the Indian Army destroying multiple Pakistani posts across the Line of Control (LoC).
What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the clip with a caption that said, "Indian Army shall not show any mercy to the Ter*rorist Republic of Pakistan. Multiple Paki posts being des*troyed in the Line of Control (LoC) last night (sic)."
What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to at least May 2023 and is not recent as claimed. It reportedly showed heavy shelling during a protest at a highway in Pakistan.
How did we find that out?: We conducted a Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip and found the same visuals posted on the official X handle of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
It was shared on 11 May 2023 with a caption that said, "Heavy shelling at Kashmir Highway as protesters number is increasing. Its time for people of Pakistan to come out and defend Pakistan. #ReleaseImranKhan."
News reports on protests: A news report published in Dawn in May 2023 said that PTI supporters had taken to the streets in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to protest against party chairman, Imran Khan.
It further mentioned that a police crackdown took place against protesters. Some arrests were reportedly made and FIRs were expected to be registered as well.
Conclusion: It is evident that the video is old and is not recent as claimed in multiple social media posts.
