Amid the Iran-Israel conflict, a video showing a man being hanged with the help of a crane is being shared on social media.
Those sharing have claimed that it shows Jewish Iranians facing public execution by the Iranian government.
Users also noted that the Jewish Iranians are being "being falsely accused of being Mossad (Israeli intelligence) agents."
What we found: We divided the video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.
This led us to the same video on YouTube, uploaded by one Alireza Donyadide on 16 April 2024. This predates the recent conflict between Israel and Iran.
The video's title suggested that it showed a behind-the-scenes clips from a film.
As per the description of the channel, Donyadide identified as a stuntman and an action scene designer.
We looked for Donyadide and came across their Instagram. We manually went through the profile and were led to the same clip as the viral video which was uploaded on 2 January.
When we translated the caption from Persian to English, it read, "Behind the scenes of the execution of the movie Bodiless."
Team WebQoof, then, ran a keyword search and found that the scene was from an Iranian film called Bodiless which was released in February 2024.
We came across the film on YouTube and found a frame similar to the viral clip.
As per reports, Iran detained more than seven hundred people for suspected connections to Israel amid the 12-day conflict. Moreover, the Islamic Republic has executed at least six individuals of different nationalities, on accusations of espionage, reported France 24.
Conclusion: A clip of an Iranian film scene has gone viral to falsely claim that the Iranian government conducted a public execution of Jewish Iranians.
