Following the arrest of Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar on Monday on extortion charges, Thane police is now probing if any money from D-Company - as Dawood’s underworld franchise is popularly called - had been used to fund the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Haseena. The film, which releases tomorrow, is a biopic on Haseena Parkar, Dawood’s sister, better known as Aapa. Kaskar’s character in the film is significant as well.
According to a report by Mid-Day, Thane police suspects that extortion money may have been pumped into the making of Haseena.
The gang earlier used to finance movies with the money got through extortion. We will check if any similar investment was made recently.Parambir Singh, Commissioner of Police, Thane
According to Singh, Kaskar took over the reins of D-Company's business in Mumbai after Parkar’s death.
After Parkar’s death, Kaskar was handling D-Company’s business in Mumbai and Thane from her home in Nagpada. Parkar used to hold a daily darbar there, a practice that Kaskar continued.
Incidentally, last November members of Dawood’s family visited Shraddha Kapoor on the sets of Haseena, ostensibly to check on how the reel character was shaping up.
