President Pranab Mukherjee expressed concern over the rising incidents of clashes between the African and Indian students while addressing the delegates of the 7th Annual Heads of Mission Conference on Monday.

The family members of the Congolese student Masonga Kitanda Olivier (29) arrived in Delhi on the same day.

Ten days after three men in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi killed Olivier after a scuffle over an auto-rickshaw, his body is lying in a mortuary at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Speaking to The Indian Express, Olivier’s friends said that his family could not gather the strength to see him.

When the incident took place, only a few people knew about it. At the stroke of midnight, his Facebook page was flooded with birthday wishes, but he was not there to read any of that. It was so painful for us.

9. Sitharaman Backs Apple Plea’s for Sourcing Waiver, Rejects Request for Refurbished Phones

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, contrary to the government’s stance, has supported the local sourcing waiver sought by Apple in order to set up a single-brand store, reports The Economic Times.

The norms require Apple to source 30 percent of the material locally in order to set up independent retail stores in India.

Sitharaman has also said that she will try to convince the Finance Ministry to allow Apple to do so. Speaking to reporter, she said:

We are asking to waive the sourcing norm only for singlebrand retail where there is cutting-edge technology. We are not touching manufacturing. In single brand, already the market has the product and people are buying it.

Meanwhile Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) has written to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) seeking a definition of “cutting-edge technology”.
