Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Shiv Sena, and BJP on Monday filed a complaint against AIB (All India Bakchod) comedian Tanmay Bhat’s Snapchat video, in which he allegedly mimicked veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The inquiry is underway against Bhat on a complaint by MNS. MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Amey Khopkar threatened to “beat” him wherever he was visible and stop his shows in the state.

We have sought legal opinion in the matter.

ACP Yashwant Pathak of the cyber crime cell has said that they are “in touch with Google, Facebook and Youtube to block Tanmay Bhat’s video and also find out the IP address.”

The AIB video, which liberally ridiculed and ‘roasted’ Lata and Sachin, who are revered by their fans, went viral on social media and other channels, but triggered outrage all around.

Shiv Sena party leader Neelam Gorhe has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking action against Bhat.

Such people try to misuse the popularity of icons like Sachin and Lata tai for their own publicity. I have also written to Mumbai Police Commissioner seeking action against Tanmay Bhat and AIB.

Earlier, the National Congress Party said that a case against Bhat must be registered, and he must be arrested.

Last week, Bhat had posted a video titled “Sachin vs Lata Civil War”. Twitter has exploded with reactions both in support and against him.

An email from The Quint to Bhat remains unanswered. Though he hasn’t apologised yet, he reacted to his haters thus:

He even poked fun at the publicity that Snapchat – which is not as popular in India as Facebook and Twitter – garnered out of one single episode.
