Kerala: Naval Officer Lt Rahul Dalal Saves Man from Drowning

Lieutenant Rahul Dalal, a navigating officer in INS Sutlej, saved a life by rescuing a drowning man at Kerala's Vypin beach on Friday, 5 April.

According to the post uploaded by the Facebook page of Indian Navy, at around 4:10bpm, the officer witnessed the a man struggling in water. The crowd nearby could not help the man who was later identified as Dileep Kumar from Aurangabad. However, Lt Dalal risked his own life and went to rescue Kumar.

“The officer also had to deal with the desperate and panicked victim who was pulling him down, putting both their lives in danger. The officer calmed the victim and made him hold onto his shoulders, after which he started swimming towards the beach,” the post said.

Once on the shore, the naval officer helped revive Kumar through Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Kumar was later taken to a government hospital and discharged after he had recuperated.
