The war in the Aam Aadmi Party has turned into a stinker with accusations of dictatorship and opportunism being thrown in the face of the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Perhaps the threat of an ouster was the last straw for party leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan.
In an interview to CNN-IBN, Yadav talked about the two allegations made by Prashant Bhushan in a press conference last week.
Talking about Kejriwal’s dictatorial approach Yadav said, “I will only confirm the two things that Prashant has said. When we went to talk to him Arvind said that he has never been in an organisation where he has not taken the final decision. I must have the final word. That’s what he has always said and done”.
The second key point that Yadav made was that the Delhi Chief Minister thinks that once the goal is decided, any means taken to achieve the goal are legitimate.
When asked if he was going to resign since working with a so-called dictator was not possible, Yadav gave a rather subtle reply. “Personal humiliations are of no consequences from the day you enter public life”.
Yadav firmly denied wanting to resign from the party.
“I am an ordinary party worker and I’m proud to be one. I am not thinking about resigning from the party.”
A Message to Arvind
Yadav also appealed to the party’s national convenor that though he was a leader with enormous capacity, he must learn to listen. He also adviced Kejriwal against considering options that were not in the best interest of the party and the people in the long run. “I remain your friend and well-wisher,” he said.
