AAP leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav launched an all-out attack on leaders from the Arvind camp. Addressing the media in New Delhi, the duo said that many lies are being propagated about their demands and resignation.
Yogendra Yadav said that the fallout has broken a certain amount of faith and shattered the dreams of the volunteers. However, he said that AAP is the only party where a discussion is still on over the issues of internal democracy, code of conduct and conflict of interest.
He said, “the points being made by us are not a part of our personal agenda. This is a follow up of the dreams of people of the country ”.
The Issues Raised
1. The democracy that we promised to the country must first be maintained in the party.
2. The allegations of breaking discipline of the party must be probed by party’s Lokayukta.
3. The voice of the AAP volunteer must be heard. They should be able to vote for their choices.
4. Must implement the promise we made about political parties coming under RTI.
5. Vacant posts in the National Executive must be filled by a secret ballot.
Yogendra Yadav also said that the National Council meeting tomorrow must discuss these issues.
“They have the right to remove us but I hope they don’t waste too much time discussing us,” he added.
I want to send them a copy of our party’s constitution which says national council meet is not the place to decide on the national convenor.
- Yogendra Yadav, AAP leader
The duo also clarified that the demand for Kejriwal to step down from the post of National Convenor was never an issue.
Questions Asked
1.Will we become like other regional parties or will the national ambition stay alive?
2. Will we neglect our volunteers like the Congress and BJP or keep their voice alive?
3. Will we be the first and the only party to keep the transparency over funds alive?
5. Will we remain the party that is open to probing anyone or will we shield our top leaders?
Prashant Bhushan said that there was a constant demand for their resignation even before a discussion over their demands had started.
We were told that the issues questioning our top leadership cannot even be mentioned to the party’s lokayukta.
- Prashant Bhushan, AAP leader
Bhushan also said, “We were constantly asked to resign. Why the pressure? We’ve been told that Kejriwal has said that he can’t work with us”.
Bhushan also clarified that the rift began after the Lok Sabha elections, when Kejriwal wanted to form government in Delhi with support from Congress but Bhushan and a majority of the National Executive agreed with him.
The duo said that if their demands are met tomorrow, they will resign.
We will send the resignation letters if our demands are met. But please wait for them to arrive.
-Yogendra Yadav, AAP leader
