In the February 2016, The New York Times reported the case filed by Alyssa Leader against her alma mater, Harvard University for not addressing complaints of sexual assault on campus with the seriousness they deserve.
Three years after, the incident that Alyssa described as life altering, the second year law student took to Twitter to share her journey, and how she found the strength and courage to not give up.
Leader, in a series of heartwarming tweets, explains the struggles she faced in recovering and how with the zeal to seek change and justice, and the support of people around her, she emerged stronger from the assault on her.
Alyssa expressed how her 19-year-old self was devastated and shattered by the attack on her.
She added how the feeling of despair lingered on for years to come.
She expressed how her experience was shared by many others who came to her demanding justice.
Leader also expressed how her desire to help people, who just like her were victims of assault, drove her to take action and fight for change.
Alyssa also expressed how she knew that her journey was in a certain sense unique, as many victims of assault don’t receive the chance she did.
