Through medieval history, and even in the modern day, Urdu poetry has been regarded as one of the most emotive literary forms of expression. Rekhta, an online Urdu poetry forum, launched their event Jashn-e-Rekhta, to celebrate the language and the style of poetry that accompanies it.

Among the many performers, Anant Mutreja stood out. His poem for his mother titled Maa Se Pehli Kya Thi Maa, beautifully explores who his mother might’ve been before he was born.

With the shayari style of Urdu poetry, Mutreja takes us through an imaginary journey, talking about his mother’s childhood, leaving both himself and his listeners with an endless sense of wonder.
