This is going to be a perfect weekend for all Sci-Fi fans, as Comic Con has kicked-off its fifth-year celebrations in Delhi. The city is now ready to host all kinds of superheroes, cartoon characters and stormtroopers. Bazinga!
But unfortunately, the fantasy world seems to have missed out on many of our cool, desi superheroes.
The Quint tells you why these Indian fictional characters are as awesome as Mystique, Alice, Hulk, Darth Vader, Princess Leia etc.
Chacha Chaudhari
Chacha Chaudhari is the favourite grand old man of the Indian comic world. Like Professor X can read and control people’s minds, Chacha ji can foresee and recognise a trouble-maker, because Chacha Chaudhary ka dimaag computer se bhi tez chalta hai.
Kids love the short, cute man, who appears closer to reality, unlike the stereotype macho superheroes.
Shaktimaan

Move aside Superman, Batman, Spiderman, we’ve got our very own Shaktimaan to save our city, who flaunts his face (not abs) in a velvet suit, unlike the masked superheroes
Suppandi
This simple village man, with a big head and three strands of hair (literally!), is loved by all. His ability to hilariously screw up every situation makes him one of the most loved fictional characters among kids.
The Common Man
Late cartoonist R K Laxman gave birth to the fictional character, Common Man in 1951. As the name suggests, Common Man – donning a checked coat and dhoti with an umbrella in his hand – was the face and the voice of aam aadmi. The man always made it to the front page of a newspaper without fearing netas or organisations. He knew how to draw attention!
Super Commando Dhruv
Super Commando Dhruv has everything it takes to be a perfect superhero. India’s response to Spiderman, Dhruv was the son of circus acrobats, whose parents died and he was later adopted by a police officer. His blue and yellow uniform highlight his six packs and he rides a bike, his crazy swings can put even Tarzan to shame.
Yes, here’s a superhero you can’t ignore.
Nagraj
He is a dude! Come on, look at him – long, gelled, spiked hair, green snake-skin body suit and his pet snake. Nagraj’s looks could give even Tony Stark aka Iron Man a run for his money. Hey Spiderman, your web is nothing in front of Nagraj, who can shoot snakes from his fingers.
Doga
He is one of the most ferocious superheroes in the desi comic world. He wore a dog mask and could even communicate with dogs and he bit..oops! Beat-up) villains!
Amul Girl
The utterly, butterly Amul girl – in a red polka dotted dress – is by far the cutest comic girl. Like the Common Man, the Amul girl is not afraid of netas and no subject, for her, is a taboo. She, at times, gets into trouble for her wit, but the little bow-clad girl is smart enough to butter her way out!
