Despite an injury, India’s 21-year-old Wonder Woman Swapna Barman scripted history as she became the first-ever Indian Heptathlete to win a gold at the Asian Games.

Barman produced the best performance of her career as she aggregated 6026 points from seven events spread over two days. She achieved the feat with a taped right cheek and ill-fitted shoes.

Barman was born with 12 toes which makes it near impossible for her to wear standard competition footwear.

I have been having this pain ever since I started competing. I make do with normal five-toed shoes but it makes me severely uncomfortable.
