Today is the day for all whiskerless folks (Tiger Shroff, you can be proud of your chiknapan) as the world celebrates No Beard Day. Yes! All you hirsute He-men, who celebrate that fine face fur through the year, take a back seat.

A clean-shaved man has always been the hallmark of sophistry and presentability. Do you remember your father going for a meeting without shaving?

So we thought of digging up some classic Indian shaving ads. The Quint brings you six shaving advertisements that’ll make you feel mantastic!

Vintage Godrej Shaving Cream

Being smooth-faced was “The one bright spot in a man’s morning” in the early-mid 80s. In the ad, a young Vivek Vaswani plays a reporter who seems to be on a challenging assignment, questioning random men about their shaving cream.

VV: Sss-Sir, which shaving cream do you use?
Suit-boot guy: (Smiles) Godrej!
VV: Why?
Suit-boot guy: Godrej. Great shave, cologne fragrance. Wife loves it!

‘Wife loves it!’ Ahaa! That’s what makes “The one bright spot in a man’s morning”.

Now it makes sense!

Palmolive

Palmolive da jawaab nahi! The company managed to rope in Kapil Dev soon after the Haryana hurricane lifted the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The toothy grin and simplicity of Kapil paaji wooed women, and convinced men that Palmolive was the right choice. Palmolive da jawaab nahi!

Nivea Men

Now this was an ad meant for the ladies. Smart thinking Nivea – lure in the ladies and they will convince their men to use the product. And who better to bemuse women than the drool-worthy hunk Arjun Rampal? If Arjun uses Nivea, and ends up having great skin (not to mention that flirtatious smile), surely your man will get the same results.

Gillette Shaving Gel

Dari hai ki jhadi? asks a groom when his unshaven friend falls on his shoulder, sleeping. They are travelling aboard a train with a wedding party. The dulha then shaves his friend with Gillette shaving gel, and the latter emerges as the show stopper.

Lame, and utterly twisted this one was!

Philips Trimmer

Gone are the days of traditional razors. It’s time to get those jazzy, gizmo electronic trimmers – the “smoothest way to look cool.” The stylish Arjun Kapoor tells you just how to be macho and boyish at the same time. But if you think that like Arjun Kapoor you can ride with the girl you are dating – who also happens to be your superior at work – to office on your bike, umm, not happening.

Old Spice

The incredibly mantastic Milind Soman teaches you how to be a man. Swooning his way, Soman gets the desired attention from both the sexes. The concept sounds ridiculously hilarious, but works as a charm with Soman flaunting his toned body and charming smile. Though the ad is for Old Spice deodorant, the american brand iconic products are its shaving lotions and creams.
