The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has taken the Internet by storm. Why, you ask? Well... she shut her car door.... herself. Yes, that’s right.

If the tweets floating around are to be believed, this is the first time that people have seen a member of the British Royal Family close their own car door after alighting from the vehicle.

Here’s the video of the ‘feat’.

Markle broke ‘protocol’ when she was attending an event at the Royal Academy of Art in London. This was her first outing after receiving the title of the Duchess of Sussex.

Of Bizarre and Bizarre-er Protocols

Many on Twitter praised Markle for being someone who “takes the time to shut her car door” because, let’s face it, royalty comes with many bizarre rules.

While many may complain about the luxurious life of the British royals, they do have to abide by a strict set of protocols. From not being allowed to play Monopoly (do they not own the actual places on the board in any case?) to not being able to eat shellfish while travelling, they have to put up with a lot.

But what led Markle to close the door herself? Some Tweeple blamed the man who opened the door for her for not being prompt enough. Chivalry truly is dead, isn’t it?

A Challenge to Royalty?

But here’s the thing, we really need to calm down about Markle shutting her own car door. For many of us, it’s a normal, everyday action that we scarcely pay attention to.

“But it’s not normal for them!” Yes, that’s true but by mistakenly closing her car door, Meghan is also not consciously challenging royalty’s strict prescriptions, as these tweets might have us believe.

Can she, then, be hailed as someone who is changing the course of royal history? Not really.
