Indian society is full of strange rules and restrictions, and dare I say it, even bigotry, when it comes to marriage. Most of us haven’t moved forward when it comes to marrying someone from a different culture, caste, community or (shudder) religion. And love? That’s just pushing it.

Yes, arranged marriages still happen.
Yes, arranged marriages still happen.

But if you think this happens only in India, think again. There are extremely ‘skin colour’ specific sites even in a forward thinking country like the United States.

Where White People Meet

One of the most controversial sites that has over 3,000 members on the internet right now, is believe it or not, www.wherewhitepeoplemeet.com.

Yup, where white people meet. Yup.
Yup, where white people meet. Yup.

You read that right. Racist? Sounds like it, but the founder of this website says he is not racist at all.

It’s about equal opportunity. I am not racist. I dated a black woman once. I helped raise a young black man. I just believe it’s hypocrisy to say ‘one group can do this, but another can’t.

Christian Mingle

If you’ve ever visited the US, you’ll know about this Christian-only dating site because that is how over-advertised it is. Re-thinking making fun of jeevansathi.com?

Beautiful People

The perfect bait for internet rage. People actually join this site. Who is considered beautiful? Who is not? So many questions with not many answers.

Black People Meet

“It don’t matter if you’re black or white”.

No, MJ. Apparently it does matter.

If white people can meet, black people can too.

Red State Date

Just when we thought it couldn’t get worse, we came across this! Watch the video they provide to understand what the site really is all about.

Heads up, you might cringe.

Gluten-Free Singles

“Our website is a welcoming place where people can find gluten-free dating partners, friends, and activity groups.”

Meet-An-Inmate

“Did you know that there are millions of men and women who are currently incarcerated, just waiting for someone to write and exchange life experiences? All the inmates who are listed here enjoy getting letters; especially those letters which help build their confidence. It can be a lot of fun communicating with these male and female inmates.”
