After the Bar Council of India’s discriminatory notice asking a certain section of people to stay away from the elevator, here’s some fresh news that will definitely make you heave a sigh of relief. All is definitely not rotting in the country.

The hit movie Sairat, which revolves around inter-caste marriage, has led fans to investigate the social stigma attached to inter-caste marriages and create a network that will reach out and support all couples who find themselves grappling with a society that shuns them completely and frowns upon such unions.

Sairat’s success led to the formation of a support group.

The group aims to counsel couples and initiate a discussion that would lead to further progress and an understanding of their plight. Their problems range from unemployment to financial distress. Many of them also struggle with accommodation.

The group has mentioned in interviews that they are not promoting run-away marriages, but a solution to the suffering inflicted on them on account of “caste and religious conflicts”. According to reports, the group has already set up twenty flats in Pune, where couples can go stay for 2-3 months without any cost.

The movie seems to be inspiring its audience to cull out the right cues. Apart from the Maharashtra Government’s initiative to help out married inter-caste couples with Rs 50,000, this is the kind of acche din we are looking forward to. We hope this movement gains traction by the day.
