You have seen them march and heard of their fighting abilities. Now watch them dance.
This dance is performed by young recruits in Assam Regiment’s regimental centre in Shillong after every Kasam Parade or swearing in parade that marks the end of their training period.
The dance is performed to the tune of the regimental marching song - ‘Badluram ka Badan zamin ke niche hai...aur hamen uska ration milta hai’
There’s an interesting story behind the song. Legend has it that during the second world war a jawan named Badlu Ram died in action but the company Quarter Master forgot to strike out his name and continued to draw rations for him. When this platoon was surrounded by the Japanese and cut off logistically, Badlu Ram’s ration saw them through the siege.
