Another Abduction Bid: Viral Post Shows How Scary Delhi’s HKV Is
A Twitter thread brings to light, yet again, the sad state of women’s safety in Delhi’s Hauz Khaz village.
I am not a club-loving person and that’s why when I want to go for a simple evening out with friends, I look for cafes in CP or Hauz Khas village... HKV, as we call it. The HKV vibe used to be nice and ‘chill’ until some time ago.
Until my memory was scarred by the numerous incidents of molestation and rape around Hauz Khas village. Until I noticed there were hardly any cops in the area. Until I realised my party scene could easily turn into a disturbing memory. So yes, I chickened out of hanging out in Hauz Khas village.
Just to be clear, I feel it’s easy to fall prey to wicked behaviour anywhere. But when the same news comes from a particular area time and again, you automatically mark it as a danger zone.
And today, a Twitter thread going viral helped reinstate that fear. Here it goes.
Following the post, many women came out to speak about their horrid HKV experiences.
While a hundred people responded with positive comments and commended her for the brave act, there were some who thought preaching ’moral’ lessons to a woman standing up against molestation was the best thing to do.
This incident took place on 5 July, Wednesday. A lot of places in HKV have a ladies’ night on Wednesday.
In February, a man was arrested for raping a 23-year-old woman in the nearby Deer Park.
This was followed by promises from local authorities and state government to strengthen the security in the area and make ‘women feel safer’. Will it take another Nirbhaya to get anything done?
